Day 12549 - Thanksgiving and Days After

Thanksgiving started off a bit rough - Littlest woke up with a temperature due to her croup and I was worried a trip to the doctor was in my future. Alternating doses of ibuprofen and Tylenol fixed her right up.

Other than that first little scare the rest of the day went well. Husband (with very little help from me) cooked a phenomenal Thanksgiving dinner with a extensive menu for the 6 of us. It included -

Spiral Ham and a Turkey Breast

Garlic and Rosemary Mashed Potatoes

Smashed Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Sauteed Brussel sprouts

Cranberry Chutney

Semi-Homemade Stuffing

Semi-Homemade Turkey Gravy

Fresh made Spiced Pumpkin Pie served with cool whip

and let us not forget the traditional cans of cranberry sauce - we enjoy the jellied and whole berries.

We are still working on everything for leftovers. The ham has made awesome breakfast food. We saved the bone from the ham and about 1 lb of meat for potato soup that Husband plans on making for dinner today, and future pots of beans.

Yesterday was a shop free day for us. The thing about Black Friday is that one has to have money to spend which means my family was out of the loop. I had to work so it didn't have any true plans to go to anywhere anyways. From watching the Today show this morning it seems I was fortunate and intelligent to avoid the chaos.

I have a huge sense of disappointment in my fellow Americans this time of year when I watch people fighting over Christmas gifts. It is proven fact that the true meaning of the season is lost on the masses. Although I will not use this forum to discuss my personal beliefs in detail I will convey the Great Creator did not give His Only Son so that humans can pepper spray their kind while shopping at Wal-Mart to save $50.

As for our Christmas, Husband has the tree up with lights but no decorations yet. The whole idea of decorations seems like too much work with "El Destructor" aka Littlest running around. I like the tree in its basic form, star on top, its glow warming the room when its dark. We are going modest this year for gifts. I have no idea what we are getting the girls. I am still seriously considering getting us a new set of pots and pan for Littlest to play with - maybe even some toilet paper rolls, empty boxes, and the odds and ends of wrapping paper - lol.

Day 12546 - Thanksgiving Eve

Snuggled up on the couch - Little and I are watching one of the new Care Bear movies on Netflix, Miss and Littlest are listening to music in Miss' Room and Husband is still in "cold recovery" in our room watching Diner, Drive-Ins, and Dives (or Triple D as Guy Fieri calls it.)

We (Husband and I) already ventured out to make sure our Thanksgiving list is fulfilled. The last thing I want to do on Thanksgiving is to justify businesses being open and taking people from their families. I feel so fortunate that this year my restaurant will be closed for the first time in 2 or 3 years (can't remember honestly).

I know that I am not into this new kind of Care Bears videos. They aren't anything like the movies I grew up with. The simple fact that not everything old is better upgraded to computer generated animation. I am forced to realize that The Care Bears Movie that I grew up with is 26 years old now and I don't know if my daughters would sit for the time it would take to finish them. I am impressed Little lasted focused on a show this long.

Secretly (or not so secretly since I am blogging it) I am hoping that Little is wearing down and the show of affection that she usually only shares with D (daddy's little girl and all) is a sign of bed time coming a little earlier tonight than the norm. I am still in awe that tomorrow I won't be working - granted I am still going to be working with food, but food for my family and own consumption is much different than food for the public.

As I wind down this post, I am thankful for the time I am giving with my family these two days. I only wish we would have grabbed another 6 pack of Newton's Folley Apple Cider at Trader Joe's.

Day 12546 - Thinking Of A Comeback

I blame Snookie and the fact she wrote a book - Confessions of a Guidette - for my desire to write again. I am highly motivated that a "made for train wreck" tv star can have any input on a sell able book then I can blog.

I don't know when I will have time with family, work and couponing, but I have the heart and thought process for it. I don't want to "blog" on Facebook. That is strictly for family and friends conversations.

I need to research my work rules so I can see how much I can vent without getting myself fired. It would suck to get fired over a blog. I started blogging to talk about saving money, random life experiences, and so on and so forth. The money saving ideas are still here but when my husband got laid off in 2009, our finances took a bit of a dive. I would much rather focus on random life experiences instead of money. I think parenting stories alone will give me a lot of material to write about.

Speaking of parenting, Littlest is tripping hard and needs rescued from Miss or maybe Miss needs rescued from Littlest.
